-It all started in South Florida this past spring, at Ultra Music Festival to be exact. And we were there, right in the mix of things in front of Avicii as he took the stage. Now, we knew he was going to be premiering his upcoming album at Ultra, and before his set he was playing it at a private mansion party (which we almost made it to, but transportation in Miami SUCKS during UMF).
Most thought they knew who Avicii was by now, with his trademark progressive synths and melodies… But holy shit were we not expecting a live kazoo. Nor were we expecting… a banjo.

Although I personally enjoyed the performance and appreciated that he was pushing not only his own boundaries but those of electronic dance music… most that heard it basically booed. They had no idea what was going on. They just wanted to hear some “Levels” that’s all.

It’s funny though, because a week later when he released the promo mix, everyone instantly fell in love. And I even more. “Wake Me Up” is so unique, so different, so catchy that there’s no wonder it’scurrently the top downloaded song in just about every European country (and #5 in the US).

Since then we’ve rec’d the official extended mix and the official music video for the Aloe Blacccollaboration. And just recently the album went up for pre-order, along with the full 12 song tracklist.

And between UMF set and his recent Tomorrowland set, and everything in between, we have actually heard the entire album. And you can preview it below!

September 17th sure is a long ways away.
